Are Varicose Veins Just a Cosmetic Issue?

by | November 25, 2014

For most of our patients, the answer to this question is “no”. Less than 20% of the procedures performed at Midwest Vein Center are done for cosmetic reasons. Varicose Veins bulge above the skin surface and may be caused by an underlying condition called Venous Insufficiency. Since 2002, we have treated thousands of patients with severe venous problems, many who had venous ulcerations that had been present for years. Following treatment, patients often experience healing of their ulcers within a few weeks.Ambulatory Phlebectomy before after photo

Genetics plays a big role in the occurrence of Varicose Veins, but anyone can develop them, even without a family history. Many of our patients have jobs that require them to be on their feet for long periods of time. Varicose Veins do not appear suddenly. It can take years for signs and symptoms to develop. Over time, Varicose Veins can cause pain, swelling, phlebitis and even hemorrhage. In addition, some patients experience changes in the color and texture of the skin overlying the Varicose Vein. Many of these symptoms and complications can be prevented by early treatment. Our patients tell us that while the cosmetic benefit of treatment is “icing on the cake”, they are most thankful for the relief they feel from their discomfort and the peace of mind in knowing they have healthier legs.

At MVC, we are experts at treating Varicose Veins and venous disease. Our treatment plans are comprehensive and often covered by insurance. Make an appointment today to speak with one of our Board Certified physicians. You deserve to look good and feel even better!
